Why Pistonvault Treats Vehicle Storage as Active Management
Before founding Pistonvault, I spent some years at Bowler Motors managing the commercial division and unique client base - a role that sat at the intersection of people, pressure and precision.
My responsibility wasn’t simply client liaison. I managed demanding business partners and private clients whose vehicles were expected to perform flawlessly, often under extreme conditions, on immovable deadlines. I was responsible for building trust based on integrity - delivering our promises, race after race.
Alongside client management, I worked with professional rally operations and engineering colleagues on rally car preparation and event logistics. We were a small but effective motorsport team - each day required strong collaboration to ensure vehicles were not just present, but ready, checked, serviced, tested and prepared to exacting standards.
When a car leaves the workshop for a competitive event, there is no room for assumptions, shortcuts or “it’ll probably be fine". This was particularly important for overseas competitions where our professional Rally Team had a strenuous mission, without added pressure of from a preparation oversight.
That environment shapes how you think. You learn quickly that:
Small oversights become big problems
Preparation is proactive, not reactive
Responsibility doesn’t stop when the vehicle is parked
Trust is earned by consistency, not promises
Those principles are carried directly into Pistonvault.
Many people think of vehicle storage as passive park it, lock it, walk away. In reality, high-value vehicles deteriorate fastest when they are ignored. Batteries discharge, tyres flat-spot, fluids degrade, seals dry out and issues quietly develop. Unanticipated risks can occur. One of our esteemed owners - who managed his own vehicle at home, returned from a three month international trip, only to find his car had been ravaged by mice; the damage was extensive, resulting in missed events and heavy electrical repair costs.
At Pistonvault, we treat storage as active vehicle management.
Every car or motorcycle is:
Regularly checked, not simply parked
Maintained according to its specific use and storage profile
Prepared as per client instructions - keeping ready to drive, show or transport at short notice
This approach resonates strongly with collectors who are used to professional standards, particularly those who have owned competition cars, track vehicles or historically significant machines.
It’s also why many of our clients start with a single vehicle and quickly expand. Once they experience what it means to have someone taking ownership, not just custody of their vehicles, the value becomes clear.
This client focused 'competition ready' mindset developed at Bowler, the same mindset underpins Pistonvault today, whether we are managing a single special car or an entire collection.
Because when vehicles matter, how they are cared for matters just as much.
